Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dark Drakon took refuge on the island of Shield Tail's herd during a harsh snowstorm, and in order to escape the frigid wind and icy snow, he unknowingly entered the cave where Shield Tail herself was currently residing. As they waited for the storm to be over, Shield Tail and Dark Drakon took the time to learn all about each other, and they immediately developed a strong friendship. It wasn't long afterward that Shield Tail made the decision to allow Dark Drakon to remain on the island, and offered him the role of joint leadership of the dragon herd.

As the joint leader of the dragon herd, Dark Drakon displays a firm sense of reasoning with the ability to balance between judgment and empathy, and will never hesitate to defend Shield Tail and the rest of the herd.
