Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Esifin started out writing mysteries where her detective character was intangible like herself, but she quickly ran out of ideas for plots. She spent some time poking around Stouseath City looking for inspiration and met an illiterate human who had a fascinating life story she wanted to share. Esifin wrote the memoir for the human and, given that dragons are not taken kindly to in Stouseath, published under the human's name. Others found out anyways and began asking Esifin about writing their stories as well. Esifin was happy to oblige, and now haunts Stouseath as a ghostly ghost-writer.
