Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Dark Starless Night is a young Black dragon hatchling, frozen in hatchling stage. She never regretted her choice to be like this for her best friend, Dark Starless Knight. She sometimes wonders what having children would be like and often helps the mothers take care of hatchlings and eggs. She and her best friend are among the few hatchlings that are brave enough to approach Darkened Runes, a Black dragon, to ask him for his poetry which he writes to control his horrible temper. They often send him more natural paints and whatever the Paper dragons might shed. They like reading his works. They are full Black dragons even though they aren't fully grown.
