Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Oketsu's name stands for impure blood.  He was found in the shell by Allynar, who brought the unhatched egg back to the cave.  The hatchling inside did not appear to survive its rough journey, and was given a proper burial at the foot of the mountain below the cave.  With the return of the full moon, the hatchling surprised all by digging himself out of his grave and climbing the steep slope up to the cave.  Rejoicing quickly turned to horror as Oketsu drained the life out of another hatchling before anyone could react.  The males drove him away from the cave, but he took up residence in an unknown den nearby, where he stayed hidden and grew to maturity by preying on whatever he could find.  Oketsu is no match for the strongest of the dragons in the cave, but venturing far from home base at night in anything less than a pair is still regarded as foolhardy.
