Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

For much of his life, Falling Dawn was resentful of his mother's coldness; he knew it was her nature as a sunset dragon, but that didn't make it easier to handle.  Instead, he turned to Sorlaa as a surrogate mother, telling her that he wanted to learn healing magic.  He has come quite nicely in his studies, and Sorlaa often comments that he is almost as good as a white dragon. Being raised by a white dragon has given him a calm personality, but he is prone to fits of anger.

With the arrival of his great-grandson Renec, Dawn has realized that much of his resentment against Dusk was childish whimsy, and now forgives his mother.
