Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s kind of shaky on its feet and enjoys playing in puddles.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Obtusus is an underdeveloped waterhorse that spent one long, lonely night in a pile of abandoned eggs before being rescued by Lagie's dragons, who brought it to the dragons of BD71, in hopes that it might find a home among the waterhorses here.  The experience of being picked up and tossed back so often stunted the poor little egg's growth so that when it hatched, it froze at its current stage forever.  However, it did find acceptance and friendship among the hatchlings and orphans gathered here, who make sure it has plenty to eat and keep it safe, and that it never gets lost in sorting.  The other dragons asked BD71 to name it Obtusus because it seemed a fitting moniker for a small hatchling that fought so hard for survival, but didn't quite get to grow up to be the dragon it could have been.
