Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sternchen is the little star of the hatchling army. Having fought the terrible St. Patrick's Lagmonster all on her own, fighting from egg on against its menace, she has proven herself a strong and determined fighter.

She soon became the army's most trusted agent for exploring possibly dangerous new caverns and other places in search of hidden treasure.
