Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ashantie lives within the hot climate of the desert. He spends his times running through the sands and dwelling within the oasis for food and shelter. He has grown up in this hot world where temperatures change rapidly using his dorsals to cool him down in the day and warm him up at night. He has been considered a rouge among dragons preferring to be alone much like a hermit but that changed once he noticed Aries Donta.

Ashantie is loyal to his master and would not go against her words but when he saw Aries he swore nothing would keep him away from her. Despite being deeply in love with her she sees him as just another dragon she vowed to protect but a little glimmer of hope came to him when she agreed to mate with him and now he dreams that one day she will take him as her true mate.
