Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It can fit right in your palm.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Daeumelinchen wandered into the clan's caves one day begging for the protection of the Pygmies and big dragons alike. Her tale was a heart-breaking one: she had been kidnapped right after hatching to become the bride to be of a nasty, ugly frog claiming to be a cursed prince. Only when her wings got strong enough to carry her did she manage to flee, luckily before the wedding could take place.

To this day Daeumelinchen is deadly afraid of amphibians and will only get close to the water if she knows that a dragon of the clan is near to protect her.
