Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brought from the Dead has always been a lucky dragon.  He was one of the very first in his owner's cave and was originally named Grizohour.  He liked helping out the hatchlings in any way possible, and was popular among the others.  However, his owner decided he had been with her for long enough and renamed him with a number.  He couldn't understand why she would do so—he had always been a good dragon.  Why his name had been changed into something that made him no more great than an inbred Mint was devastating to him.

On Halloween, Brought's owner approached him and other numerical dragons with a sword and a crazed look in her eyes.  She had stabbed them one by one and then called up a Magi dragon to cast a spell.  His companions all perished.  He was told later that their bodies had lifted off the ground for a heartbeat before turning to dust.  Brought was special in that his corpse had been reformed back into a Guardian and his owner changed his name in honor of his will to live.
