Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kaiaff is one of the two guards of the Stanca clan. The other guard is Bizonyte, a purple Dorsal dragon. To most people, it looks cool to see two Dorsal dragons of different colors standing next to each other, guarding the entrance of a cave. However, Kaiaff hates doing this. She and Bizonyte are exes and enemies to the end. Kaiaff is prideful and dim-witted, and whenever she loses an argument with Bizonyte, (which is every time there is an argument) Kaiaff will still have an irritatingly high opinion of herself. She hates fighting, even though Bizonyte loves it and always tries to start fights with her. Kaiaff would rather have pretty, non-ripped wings and horns, though. She is prissy and always complains about how she wants to be a mother instead of a guard so she can stay pretty and not get her fins ripped up, even though her smarter Clan members are glad that she's not allowed to make any miniatures of herself.
