Golden Wyverns are known for their beautiful metallic scales and rumored magical abilities. Living high in the mountains, these dragons do not believe in killing for sport or pleasure. They will hunt only when hungry and defend themselves when provoked, but will avoid killing to the best of their abilities. Golden Wyverns often mingle with other dragons of similar color and take pride in their shimmering hide.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Caitlin had always intended to have a large family. To see a piece of herself and of her mate grow into something unique, a new individual; it felt magical to her. Her hatchlings would always have younger siblings to play with and older siblings to teach and guide them. The giggles of childhood forever echoing throughout the cave, as hatchlings play age-old games in a warm and safe home. That was her dream.

Reality proved slightly different.

Although high peaks and rocky mountains are a Golden Wyvern's natural habitat, Alba proved a poor place to settle. There was not enough food and not enough space for yet another clan of dragons. and every inch of stone was fiercely disputed. Dragon clashed against dragon. Fangs, claws and magic became weapons. There were casualties on both side of the war, as was to be expected.

But she never expected it to be her second child.
