Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As many people know the three sons of Kronos Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades each got part of the earth to rule. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld. Hades hated his domain and cursed his brothers for getting the better end of the deal. The dead weren't much for company and things were always so boring and dull down in the underworld. Sure he had a wife, Persephone, but she was only around for half the year because her mother Demeter insisted on having her during the seasons of plenty. Enforcing punishments was fun for a while but eventually lost it's zing, so Hades just sat on his throne bored out of his mind. He often tried to overthrow his brothers but always failed and was made out to be the bad guy. All he wanted was to have some fresh air, to meet people who were actually alive, and see things that weren't in the underworld. So one day he thought of an idea, he would turn into a dragon and fly on the surface in the dead of night.
