Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Bratty is a mischievous and, well, bratty young hatchling. She's fast enough that she can annoy the other hatchlings and get away with it unscathed. One of her many pranks includes flying in figure-eights around two hatchlings, tricking them into tackling each other when they're in fact trying to get a hold of her. She'll occasionally get too big for her britches and try a prank on an adult dragon. Being caught and scolded by a large dragon hardly dissuades her, and she'll be at it again a short time later. One time her habits earned her an appropriate punishment, when another hatchling played a prank on her and tethered her to a heavy rock as she slept, leaving her unable to fly the next day until an adult took pity on her and untied her.
