Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This poor little hatchling grew big and strong. But as it grew, so did its bones. A calcium-based substance grew in place of scales, locking the small body into place. In order to have the same amount of impact resistance that normal dragons possess, his bony plating had to grow extra thick, making it very difficult for the small dragon to run. However, it has found that it greatly enjoys water and is far more buoyant than many land dragons. At night, some have mistaken him for a ghost, seeing the white flicker in water.
