Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Geode dragons are closely related to Stone dragons. They are covered in a hard stone-like material as well as beautiful crystal. Their wings are entirely useless for flight, but they help attract mates. The dragons with the most brilliant and colorful crystals are more likely to mate.
This gem of a dragon lives deep in the home cave, well away from prying eyes - even though they mainly belong to the more curious dragons of the weyr.
Cave Dancer is certainly a mystical creature. She claims to be able to speak to the stones and 'cleanse bad auras' with her crystal wings, which she says act like some form of crystalline dowsing rods. Many seek her out; whether to catch just a glimpse of her undeniable beauty or to have their auras cleansed is subject to debate.
She is, however, a caring and loving albeit naive and impressionable dragoness. Her hatchlings are always raised with tenderness, and nothing delights her as much as being asked to baby-sit young Stones and Pebbles at the back of the cave, where she teaches them about different crystals and their affect on the body.
Most of the crystal on her body is of a beautiful, frosted quartz, which she insists has wonderful healing properties.
