Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Despite her somewhat frightening appearance, Mesa is actually a calm, level-headed dragon who will only fight if she feels her life is in danger. Because of this, she does not get along with Priestess Demona; the vampire dragon will try to bite Mesa any chance she gets (when she's awake, that is). Mesa is mostly diurnal, despite the fact that many of her species are nocturnal. She is also very nurturing, and will gladly help her tamer look after any hatchlings in the cave at the time. Mesa likes to stargaze (when she is actually awake at night) and she loves the sound of crickets, as they help her fall asleep when it's too quiet within the cave.
