Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Little Pierre is a shy, young one who enjoys simple child-like games, such as playing with blocks or running around outside. He is completely oblivious to his grandfather's insanity and his father's insane scheming. Many worry that Pierre will grow up to be off-kilter like his family, but for now, he is quite content climbing trees and picking flowers.
