Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aaromis has his father's charm, his mother's cunning, and an absolute horror of becoming like either.  He spent most of his early adult life traveling, afraid to stay in one place for long lest someone connect him with his infamous parents, until he came to Dragonroost Castle.  Felshara, who would eventually become his mate, could not have cared less about his ancestry, while Selroa wasn't any more nervous around him than around any other dragon, and Haldyn vowed to run off Jalgafen and Velsig if they should ever come within sight of the castle.  To his surprise, Aaromis has found himself enjoying living near humans, because they are so unafraid of him.  The children include him in many of their games, and young and old alike love demonstrations of his magic.  Finally, Aaromis has found a place where he can relax and be at peace, and even be happy.
