Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very festively colored.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Aioel is one of the few frozen dragons in the tribe that does not mind being frozen. While others mourn the loss of growing wings or maturing and having a family, Aioel jumps for joy at being forever small. He can always fit in the slender boughs of a pine tree and he's small enough to wear a normal sized harness with normal sized bells. He never did like the look of disproportionate bells on a dragon, and the giant bells used on the larger dragons sound more like shrieking sheet metal than delicate tinkling. Aioel loves that he can fit into toy sacks and hand out presents without squishing anything in too-large paws. Most of all, he loves that he's the soprano in the dragon choir.
