Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shining Serpent is a friendly shimmer-scale dragon. She has many friends, but only a few best friends. Xantra and Quirky Quicksilver are her closest friends. The three can often be found together by the banks of the Great Lake. Shining Serpent catches fish for other dragons to eat. Since she's good at fishing, she has plenty of free time, which suits her.

   Singing is Shining Serpent's greatest passion. As well as singing songs composed by others, she writes her own. Shining Serpent is confident and social. She's a friend to many dragons, but has a secret that few know about. Shining Serpent was abandoned by her parents when she was only an egg. She considers her friends to be the family that she never had.

  Shining Serpent has a mate, a Blusang Lindwurm named Wonder of the Waves. Shining Serpent grew up with him, and he's just a little bit younger than her. Shining Serpent lives in the Great Lake for most of the year, but in summer likes to travel to the coast with her mate.
