Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Keeping the strange tradition of his parents, Pinty-Minty was named after his father who had been named after his mother as a joke. Like both of his parents, he is much smaller than the other frozen and non-frozen hatchlings. However, he does not allow his lack of size to ruin his playing time with them. He is energetic and tough, even when he is teased by some of the bigger hatchlings. A few hatchlings, though, have looked past his small size and seen the good guy that he is on the inside, such as Kenell, Petit Enseignant, and Hmieg.
