It’s an undead baby dragon, produced by a failed magical spell. It probably would be cute if it weren’t partially decayed.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

As his eggshell got thinner, Badno began to sense the heavy footsteps of other dragons. Even as an embryo, he was curious. Hatching only nurtured that curiosity. The world was huge and intriguing and, for a naive hatchling, it was full of dangers. Nothing tickled Badno's curiosity more than the upwalkers. His mother had warned him extensively about the dangers of upwalkers, but no little hatchling can be contained by his mother. Badno crept up to an upwalker and sniffed cautiously at its paw. It appeared to be covered in some kind of leather, but he had to taste it. Badno stuck his tiny fangs into the course material. "Bad! No!" it barked harshly, sucking the air out of the hatchling with a mighty kick. With an audible crack, Badno crashed into the middle of a stone sea. When Badno's mother found him, she used her magic to revive him as best as she could. She didn't recognize him, though, and when asked his name, he repeated the only words he knew: "Badno."
