Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

One who Flies nearly lives in the skies. The moment the sopping wet hatchling broke through her egg she ran around and tried to lift off even though she was exhausted from hatching. Impatient she crawled around in the sun until finally she was dry. Then she soared and glided through the clouds until fatigue struck her and she plummeted to the ground. The baby was lucky enough that another Skywing had been floating around and saw her as she fell. The dragon dove and caught her. But the accident from her earliest days doesn't deter her and the older Skywing is always gliding behind her in case she tires.
