Paper Dragons are not truly living creatures. They are pieces of parchment enchanted by magic, and as such, are very vulnerable to fire. However, they behave almost like dragons. The only place where their behavior differs is breeding: paper dragons cannot breed.

Chapter One's first chapter begins with an art project. A human named Chani was trying to perfect a papier mache egg and spent days toiling over the task. While she was out, her companion Spellpower, a young Magi dragon still learning to control her powers, accidentally enchanted the masterpiece. A couple days later, Chani returned to find a paper hatchling sitting where her artwork had once been. Spellpower was terrified that Chani would be angry, but instead Chani was overjoyed at the strange creation. It took to following its "creator" Spellpower around wherever she went, much to her displeasure. It's a rather happy thing and seems to be cheerful even when Spellpower is growling at it to go away. Over the course of its life, it has been tattooed from head to tail with Chani's notes and scribblings from times when she has ran out of paper, and has even been named after the most noticeable one on its belly: Chapter One.
