And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Wingless Sorrow is quite an unusual hatchling. He spends his days milling about the forests and woods of his clan's territory, picking berries and tasty leaves to eat. Rarely seen around his clan's camp, he doesn't really care for the company of other dragons, preferring a life of solitude. Besides, they all contradict his belief that he doesn't have wings. No matter how many times the other dragons point out the wings on his back, The Wingless Sorrow doesn't believe them, saying that he does not have wings whatsoever. His philosophy is that so long as he can't see those wings (since he can't turn his head backwards) they aren't there, no matter what the others say. This has led to him becoming sort of a joke around the clan, and anyone who stubbornly believes a lie is called a 'wingless sorrow'.
