Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Defrentius is the 'unlucky sap', according to many horde members, that just so happens to be Kaerlyth's quasi-mate. The two do like each other, but it's quite clear that Kaerlyth is holding the reins in this relationship. Defren is somewhat meek and submissive, but he knows when to man up and get down to business. However, he often loses all his courage and nerves when Kaerlyth is about, simply because she's just that darn intimidating. He's alright to hang around, even if he's got all the guts of a newly-hatched Pink hatchling when his 'mate' is around.

He loves Kaerlyth and their daughter, Rozinraum, and is quite proud of the stable family they've managed to set up together. He doesn't really care that he's been claimed by a dragoness that's a lot older than him, but Luce tends to poke fun at him for it.

...that is, only when Kaerlyth is far, far away.
