This breed of dragon was thought to exist only in legend. Although their name varies between cultures, they are often referred to as “Guardians of Nature.” They are able to channel the forces of fire, ice and lightning, which allows them to wield tremendous power. Seen very rarely, it is thought that they only become active when something is threatening the territory they have chosen to guard. In order to protect their chosen home, these dragons are incredibly adaptable; they have been seen everywhere from remote mountain ranges, to ancient forests, to the darkest depths of the ocean.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Radiant Mother, First of the Guardians, Gaia is most well-known for her motherly gentleness. Always the first dragon to welcome new hatchlings to the flock, always the first to offer her wisdom and aid to those in need, she treats all in the flock as if they were her children. Even the Cave Mother is given this same treatment.

Few have seen this dragoness angry, and so many believe she is incapable of even feeling such emotions, so serene and peaceful is she. In truth, it is just that she has extremely good control over her feelings, and considers it improper to give in to negativity when she needs to be a figure of kindness, in contrast to her dangerous brother, Chaos, and the distant Ailill.

With the recent incidents, Gaia has taken over Ailill's duties to the flock, throwing herself into her tasks with relish. However, her main, secret task is to bring back the sweet Ailill that she once knew, and perhaps she might have just the way to do it, by restoring what he lost: love.
