Cavern Lurker Dragons are nocturnal ambush predators. Although small, they are very aggressive and will attack anything weak enough to be overpowered. Their preferred method of hunting is to lie in wait in a cave, burrow, or other small, enclosed space; when any potential prey passes they will lunge out to grab hold of the unsuspecting victim and drag it back into the lair. Cavern Lurkers have an odd aversion to sunlight and almost never venture out during the day. More commonly sighted are the odd piles of bones they stack near the entrance to their dens. Their mating call is a low-pitched bumping noise.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hex is the strict and powerful leader of the Cavern Lurkers of SL's scroll. He is a fearsome Lurker, and is much bigger than the average Cavern Lurker. He exhibits more aggression than normal, and protects his group with fierce claw and fang. Any dragon who has not been exposed to the power of Hex is in for a massive surprise.

Hex knows of Immortal's meetings with Silver and he knows of their child. He also knows about Reaper's fling with The Bone Chiller, but is unaware of Reaper's offspring Chilly Rum. Concerning Immortal's predicament, he has pitied the fine Lurker, and allowed her to remain with them, even though she broke one of his laws. He himself has a love interest. The other female, Feared, has caught his unwavering eye which has proved hard to do over the years. He constantly courts her, but is often put down when she snarls at him with mild interest. Her actions, however, prove to Hex that he has sparked her curiosity as well.
