Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Nobody knows where Mozarello came from or how his body, which is made entirely of cheese, is able to function. Local Magi dragon Merridian has taken him under her wing, though many speculate that this is entirely because she wants to study the enchantments that allow Mozarello to move about. After all, Mozarello does not ever speak and so cannot offer much in the way of company.
