Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Silverwood Tree is one of Phoenix's dragons. She is a very beautiful but shy hatchling who for some odd reason or another likes to climb trees, hence the name. She is very caring when it comes to other hatchlings that are sad and she gives off such a pretty glow that one can't help but wonder whether she has a touch of angel ancestry in her. She was frozen because she knew that if she grew to full size, she would no longer be able to climb the tall skinny trees that she knows as her best friends. She would rather stay little, she said, and so it was.
