Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

While not a mercenary to a group of Purple Dorsal Dragons, this female has taken the name of Mercenary. She is skittish, with a frantic nature, and can easily irritate anyone around her with her nonstop talking. While she speaks about interesting and even important things, Mercenary has a whiny undertone that creeps into her telepathic voice and can agitate just about anybody. She uses this to her advantage when fighting, trying to tell her enemy how to attack better with a constant stream of information.

While not very intelligent, Mercenary remembers things well and learns new things easily. She is rather small compared to the rest of her group, so some of the other members treat her a little gentler than others, but Mercenary is just fine with that. She likes being treated like she's fragile, though she is far from it.

Mercenary is loyal to the point of stupidity, with a habit of agreeing to things that don't make any sense, but she will do anything to protect her group.
