Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though her name may stick out as rather ordinary in comparison to those of her fellow cave-mates, Jane doesn't mind in the least—after all, she has always preferred to be called by her title, Shepherd. Shepherd and her life-mate Vakarian spend most of their time on the borders of their mistress's territory, keeping to the mountains her mate loves and maintaining a watchful eye out for any trouble that may come from beyond the lands they call home. Confident and more than able to hold her own in a fight, Shepherd also serves as a commanding warrior for the cave when her aid is necessary.
