When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As one of the establishers of The Hold, a colony of dragons to the far south of the Cave, Morikald is known as an Elder among The Hold's dragons. Possessing a rank directly below Rhonomith, The Hold's Magi leader, Morikald acts as a scout and guardian for the colony.

Due to The Hold's extensive waterway system, a vast and snaking collection of rivers which connect and drain into three yawning lakes, Morikald has the tactical ability of keeping watch over The Hold within the stealth of these waterways.

An aggressor of those who bid The Hold harm, Morikald is a generally stern yet enchantingly humoring dragon.  He is a quiet creature who enjoys the silent depths of his waterway territory.  Yet, he can also be found indulging the questions of hatchlings when they come to the lake shores and ask about the vast secrets which the waters hide.

As a guardian of the colony he is a fierce defender, and yet his mate, Duodecima, will often tell others that he is unmatched in his care and loyalty.
