Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Emily is one of fifteen dragons handpicked by the Anu clan leader, Athia, to help quell the rebellion during the clan war. Emily is intelligent, passionate, a fighter, and practically fearless. Her mother is part of the council, and Emily has had to fight accusations that her mother brought Emily into the council. This isn't true, Athia appointed her for her passion and fervor in battle. Emily is proof that females are just as capable as males, and the others now believe that she does deserve her place in the council. She throws herself into challenges, she is called both heroic, and reckless. All of the council members consider her a friend, she treats them with kindness and respect. One day a stupid action on her part nearly resulted in her death, devastating the rest of the council. One member even blames himself for her near-death experience, thinking he wasn't there to help her in time. She's matured since that event, and is putting her clever mind to stopping the rebel leader Eden.
