Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don’t grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Cadmium is the average hatchling, even with the powerful spell that preserves his youth. He's strong and clever, and has a close bond with Lightshine, the blue water hatchling. He's being trained as a spell-caster by Mandarian, the only other Magi dragon in the Rain Clan. Once his training is done he will become a hatchling spy with Lightshine, and use his magic to protect the frozen hatchlings in this part of the clan.
