Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Watching is a thin Swallowtail who has very long tails. They drag in the dirt and they catch onto the tips of small trees when he flies. While having such tails makes him attractive to female Swallowtails, Watching is barred from entering a group by the guard. His lineage is too messy and there are not enough free females in the group, so Watching has to stay outside with two other rejected male Swallowtails.

All three of them are weak, so they have to stick together to prevent predators from eating them. In the small trio, Watching keeps a lookout at night for enemies.

While Watching does want a female mate and a few eggs, he has found that love is finicky. His two friends caught his heart, and he cannot figure out why. While a male dragon having two females isn't that uncommon, a male dragon having two males is bizarre to Watching. The thought that he might be in love with his friends makes him feel awkward and he has found himself trying not to speak to them as much as possible.
