Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

The Tinsel hatchlings were about to race in their annual weekly tournament. A young bronze hatchling lined up with the other Tinsels. She was excited, yet nervous because all of the other dragons didn't expect her to win. After all, the colour bronze represented third place. A Bright-breasted Wyvern roared and gained the attention of the hatchlings. The race began and the hatchlings ran off. The bronze hatchling was lagging behind, but soon, she was neck and neck with a gold hatchling (the hatchling that every dragon thought would win). The hatchlings could see the finish line, and in a few short seconds, the race ended. Every dragon was astonished as the little bronze hatchling won. When she matured, they decided to name her, "Not Third Place" to show that Bronze Tinsel Dragons weren't always last.
