It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vinescales is more like a Dark Green Dragon than a Purple Dragon. She's pretty aggressive, loves to fight, and will defend her territory with her life, even if the only thing 'invading' is a flea. And then there's her namesake: the huge patch of vines occupying her forest home. Seacrest has stated that 91 percent of the vines on the Crimson Island belong to Vinescales, which may be the only accurate statistic she's made up.

When she's not fighting off fleas, she's probably rolling around in her vines. She loves her vine garden more than anything and has been seen trying to communicate with them, stroking them with her claws. Her alone time with her vines gives her plenty of time to comprehend things. She knows the secrets of almost every dragon on the island. She's even one of the only four to know of Jadeclaw's identity.

Though most find her strange (aside from her mate, Blackleaf), she has reasons. She likes snooping and finding out people's juiciest secrets.

She's kind of a jerk.
