Greater Spotted Drakes are found in open pine and oak forests. They are among the larger end of the spectrum, but are quite laid back and feed mostly on plant material. They are ambush predators and rely on their dappled markings for camouflage. Females are usually larger than males, though males are brighter in color. In the breeding season the male attracts a mate by making loud, low-pitched bugles, followed by an aerial courtship dance as proof of his quality as a father to her offspring.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Olirani is the founding draconic member of the Fortium "clam". She was rescued by a human, Alistani Fortium, when she was merely a hatchling, stolen from her family by a smuggling ring. Kept feeble and weak by her captors, Olirani eventually made a desperate bid for freedom. Miraculously, she found herself in a nearby forest, and used her natural camouflage to her advantage. She was found by Alistani when the girl was foraging for her family, who made their home in a nearby village; Alistani's kindness and compassion soon had the girl both feeding and hiding the young dragon. As the weeks passed and Olirani grew larger and stronger, the search spurred by her captors became more frantic and violent. Olirani and Alistani eventually agreed that the safest option for the pair was to flee the alpine village, to a friendlier part of the world. Together, the human and dragon founded the Fortium "Foundation", which helps victims of all backgrounds find a safe haven.
