Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aki Tocahu is and always has been, possibly the most demanding, vain dragon in all of the territories. As a hatchling, he would squeal, yowl, and cry piteously if deprived a single bite of food, and if he had too much, he would simply devour his meal then whine and whimper while he became ill from overeating. Keeper would try and be patient, but it wasn't uncommon to hear her scolding him, especially when he tried to put his needs in front of others when they were more urgent, such as sickly Glory. That's not to say Keeper or any of the other dragons don't appreciate or feel and kinship with Aki. He's not entirely close with any of the dragons, and his only real bond is shared with Keeper, who, despite all her scoldings, is very affectionate and close to Aki.

As an adult, Aki has grown out of many of his old quirks, but is now infamous for preening and flashing the entire cave with his brilliant gold scales from time to time, much to the irritation of the nocturnal dragons.
