Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Violenta's name may sound similar to Violet, but a more fitting word would be ViolENT. While older vine dragons are cranky and ill-tempered, add in the impatience of a child(or hatchling), and you get Violenta. Being a frozen hatchling, you get the more mature irritability of an adult and the obnoxious impatience of a hatchling all rolled into one. Other dragons do best to stay away from her, unless they are fond of long lectures on their stupidity, scratches and overall foulness.
