Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Danny Brady, the proud son of Jacob Brady and Diamond Note, is a quiet, nerdy dragon that who excluded from in the hatchling community. He hangs around his parents and grandparents a lot, which only makes him more of a victim of the other kids. Danny doesn't mind being a dork, though, and utilizes the time that he could be spending with friends by writing poetry. He and his younger brother, Fredrick Brady, are extremely close. They spend their time staring at one another and trading action figures. Danny only gets angry when the other hatchlings torment his brother by jumping out at them. He has actually yelled at Timmy Brady, his uncle and the main tormentor of Fredrick. He is in deep love with the mute Delilah Granger. He saved her life.
