Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Spinning is a quiet and lean Swallowtail who is part of a group of male and female Swallowtails. She entered the group easily, her tiny lineage enough for her to join without any insults on the guard's behalf. Spinning didn't like the males in the group at the time and stayed alone for awhile.

That all changed when a male Swallowtail joined the group, his name Enchanted Eyes. Like the other males, she didn't think that he was all that interesting besides his eyes, so at first she ignored him. But time continued on and she eventually got to know how he thought and how friendly he was, causing her to start to fall in love with him. Enchanted Eyes accepted her when she asked, and now the both of them are happy mates. At dusk, Spinning likes to get her mate to dance with her, spinning around singing together in soft voices.

Spinning sometimes feels bad for the dragons stuck outside of the group. Part of her wants to try and talk to them, but she's afraid that they'd be dangerous.
