Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It likes garnets, but only certain kinds.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Trencherman is small even by pyralspite standards, and the bigger kids know they can shake him up to get things they want. In the prey cave, he would be muscled away until there was no more space to sit and eat. Soon, he devised a plan to guarantee a spot for himself, and he quietly worked on it on his own. A little less than a week later, with help from the grown-ups who provide the food and watch over the youngsters, Trencherman secretly changed the disorganized cave into a place where dragons have to win at various two-player puzzle games in order to get a seat. They can sit, but if they're challenged and they lose, they have to leave their place and cannot eat. Very few people know exactly who came up with this game, but every hatchling seems fine with it. Whenever there is a newcomer to the prey cave, Trencherman is happy to explain the rules there.
