Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Many years ago, Blood Gaze only loved one dragon that he calls Talls (He came up with that nickname and it stuck). He would bring her food, flowers, and other items stolen from humans. But one day, when he was bringing Talls flowers, he saw her with Water Fin holding an egg in the air with her magic and he dropped the flowers and ran to a mountain surrounded by others. He didn't sleep, eat, or drink for an entire month, in which he mostly spent crying (can dragons cry). After that month he vowed to do everything in his power to get rid of Water Fin once and for all, unfortunately (for him) he hasn't had luck in doing so. Once Goldfinch was born Blood Gaze thought that he would be an easier target, that proved not to be the case, as he has gone in to limbo a total of fifty two times in the last week. Every night he cries himself to sleep, and because of this, no animals live near him so he is always lonely. He has also vowed never to love again, afraid the same thing will happen again.
