Balloon Dragons are so named because they are filled with a gas that makes them almost lighter than air, similar to balloons. However, they are not prone to bursting, as they are covered in tough skin and can deflate themselves if necessary. In addition, they generally are slow moving. They use their gas bladders to float to the tops of trees, where food is more abundant. They can shift their weight from their backs to their fronts, allowing them to reach leaves and fruit.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Kitria, a young and feisty balloon dragon, is known throughout the land as the go-to gal for peppers. In return for her help, all Kitria asks is that you try a bite of her famous specialty, the Naga Jolokia Pepper. Unknown to most, the Naga Jolokia is the spiciest pepper in the world and many have left Kitria's cave will a blistering mouth.

Though the plump Kitria looks to be an easy meal, any predators will soon find that it is impossible to hunt her because their eyes won't stop watering. Kitria is always covered in capsaicin, the active ingredient in peppers that make them spicy. Only one unfortunate dragon has ever taken a bite out of Kitria and has a tongue left to tell the tale. That dragon, an albino, was saved from permanent capsaicin scarring by only his thin layer of protective skin oil.
