Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lyricist arrived in Verdant during a very dark night, and was first noticed at dawn, appearing as a statue at the gate to the Mint Garden. Upon inspection by several of the Verdant community, they realized she was a living dragon. That night, once she moved again, she had a long, quiet discussion with Mentha.  While still very mysterious, from that day to now, she arrives at dawn, sometimes bringing a song to delight Dani'el, but always taking up her duty at the Garden, seemingly a statue, or a jungle gym for the hatchies, unless there is danger to a hatchie or the community. Then, she is a fierce protector wherever she is needed. Her strong intuitions and subtle, rapid communications help prevent many possible dangers from occurring. Occasionally, she brings a little Red or Nocturne egg for Mentha's guidance, and it is believed she returns at night to the Weyr of Adam Red Fire.
