Paper Dragons are not truly living creatures. They are pieces of parchment enchanted by magic, and as such, are very vulnerable to fire. However, they behave almost like dragons. The only place where their behavior differs is breeding: paper dragons cannot breed.

When Atomois closes his eyes, he can still hear his friend's screams as the larger dragon's claws unknowingly came down on top of him, crushing his flimsy body like a twig. Ever since that day, Atomois has been terrified that he will suffer the same fate, and almost never dares to leave his nest in the library except when the cave is empty. His favorite hiding spot, a small crevice created by a stack of books that had been knocked over years before was one day discovered by Mortica in her efforts to keep the library tidy. Her gentle demeanor managed to coax Atomois out of his shell, and the two became good friends. It was Mortica that gave the Paper his name. An old word for "uncuttable," she hoped it would give him the courage to venture outside. But Atomois is perfectly content to hide in the library where the only danger is falling books. And of course Mortica's tail.
