Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Count Cassanova does not recall what he was supposed to be, but feels a strong pull towards darkness, inherited from his short line of Hellfires and Black Marrows. However, no such pull towards this family exists. He feels loyalty only to his true family, the Montagues. He holds the family's old values of cave born purity, but cannot deny that this pull of darkness draws him to corrupt species that hold dear to light and beauty. Dayglories, Sunsongs, Luminas, any dragon that bathes happily in the light is not safe from Cassanova's fangs. For his prejudice, Cassanova had been placed in charge of the blood stock of Purple dragons, knowing that he will not be tempted to hurt them. He knows this is punishment, but he accepts quietly, and lets a hot fire simmer in his soul that threatens to turn him against his sires....
